According to a report by The Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, in a statement on the recent abduction of students in Oyo State, Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), has accused unnamed political actors of supporting armed groups and worsening insecurity in the South West.
Igboho made the remarks during a meeting with members of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Ibadan, where he claimed he knows those behind the kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
He said he had volunteered to assist in rescuing the abducted students but was not allowed to proceed by the state government. According to him, his planned involvement and security mobilisation were blocked despite his readiness to act.
The activist maintained that he and his group could dislodge armed men hiding in forest areas if given approval, insisting that local security efforts would be more effective in tackling the situation.
He also alleged that his security initiative, “Iru Ekun,” had received federal backing but was restricted at the state level, a move he claimed could slow down rescue operations for the victims.
The abduction, which reportedly affected pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, has continued to generate concern across Oyo State, with security agencies still tracking suspects believed to have escaped into nearby forest reserves.
