
In a fiery revelation, popular Nigerian commentator Reno Omokri has claimed that the roots of Nigeria’s current insecurity can be traced back to the death of Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader. According to him, the fall of Gaddafi unleashed chaos across Africa, opening the floodgates for terrorism and religious killings.
Omokri argued that when former U.S. President Barack Obama ordered the military intervention that led to Gaddafi’s death in 2011, Libya’s powerful control over extremist movements collapsed. “It was after Obama killed Gaddafi that Christians started dying in Nigeria,” Reno said, pointing out how weapons from Libya’s civil war later spread into the Sahel and found their way into Nigeria through groups like Boko Haram.
Before Gaddafi’s fall, Libya served as a buffer zone—strong, organized, and capable of stopping extremist infiltration into sub-Saharan Africa. But after his death, Omokri said, the region descended into chaos, with militias, terrorists, and illegal arms trade destroying borders and lives.
He further warned that many Nigerians fail to see the deeper connection between international politics and the violence happening at home. To him, Gaddafi’s death wasn’t just the end of a dictator—it was the beginning of Africa’s unraveling.
