According to report by Daily Post on October 13, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed he will attend an international peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, after receiving a surprise invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi — a leader who had reportedly avoided speaking with him for months.
The development came after a phone call brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump at the Knesset in Jerusalem. According to reports, Trump personally connected Sissi and Netanyahu, convincing both sides to put their differences aside in order to advance his Gaza peace plan.
The upcoming summit, taking place today in Egypt, has drawn more than 30 world leaders, including Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto.
It marks the first time since the Gaza war began that Sissi and Netanyahu will meet face-to-face to discuss possible steps toward regional stability.
For months, Egypt had maintained a cautious distance from Israel amid rising public anger over the war in Gaza. Sissi’s sudden change of tone — inviting Netanyahu at Trump’s request — is seen as a major diplomatic turn and a sign of renewed regional cooperation under U.S. influence.
An official statement from the Egyptian presidency confirmed that both Netanyahu and Abbas will participate in the meeting “to reaffirm commitment to the Gaza ceasefire agreement” and to explore post-war peace mechanisms.
However, Netanyahu has maintained that Israel will not allow the Palestinian Authority to take charge of Gaza, a stance that could spark heated debate at the summit.
