Politicians Don’t See What Nigerians See When They Get There They Lose Sight Of What We Want- Mike

In a recent interview shared by Arise TV on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, NDC chieftain Chidi Mike raised concerns about the disconnect between political leaders and the citizens they are elected to serve.

He stated during the interview that, “Politicians don’t see what Nigerians see when they get there they lose sight of what Nigerians want.” Speaking on the challenges of governance in Nigeria, Mike noted that many leaders often begin their political journeys with promises and a clear understanding of public expectations, but tend to lose focus once they assume office. He described this shift as a major reason for the persistent dissatisfaction among Nigerians.

According to him, this gap between leadership and the people has contributed significantly to poor policy decisions and a lack of accountability in governance. He stressed that leaders must remain grounded and consistently engage with the realities faced by ordinary citizens.

Mike further explained that effective governance requires empathy and a continuous connection with the electorate, adding that leaders must prioritize the needs of the people over personal or political interests. He argued that without this alignment, meaningful development will remain difficult to achieve.
