Why Have They Been Attacking Peter Obi For The Past Three Years? — Martins Oloja

Veteran journalist and former Guardian Editor-in-Chief Martins Oloja has questioned the sustained attacks on Peter Obi since the 2023 elections, saying the focus on Obi’s decision to leave ADC for NDC should be on understanding political movements rather than framing them as crises.

Speaking on Channels Television, Oloja said political editors and correspondents should avoid sensational headlines that label every disagreement or party switch as a crisis.

He argued that movements between parties are normal in politics, and journalists should dig into the reasons behind them and identify who is influencing events behind the scenes. He urged the media to prioritize intelligence gathering over drama and to help the public see the bigger picture.

Oloja also cautioned citizens against voter apathy, saying anger at the current situation should translate into participation, not lamentation.

He warned that those who refuse to register and engage in the process have no right to complain later about being governed by people they dislike. He noted that he had seen data showing strong loyalty among supporters who say they will follow Obi or Kwankwaso wherever they go.

He emphasized that Obi’s supporters should be allowed to make their position. He found it curious that some individuals and analysts have made it their mission to attack Obi for the past three years and called for an end to politics of bitterness in a country as important and blessed as Nigeria.

In his words, “I kept wondering, why have they been attacking Peter Obi for the past three years? Even some political analysts and political editors should find out what is the reason for the past three years, since 2023, after the general election.”
