Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing him as their preferred candidate for a second term in office.
In a post shared via the official X handle of Femi Fani-Kayode on Saturday, the duo said it was in the interest of Nigeria’s unity, stability, and prosperity for power to remain in Southern Nigeria for two uninterrupted terms in line with what they described as the “Gentleman’s Agreement” that has guided political power rotation since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
According to them, Northern Nigeria had already completed its eight-year tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and it was only fair and equitable for the South to retain power for another four years after Tinubu’s first term.
The statement read in part, “Our candidate and choice for the 2027 Presidential Elections is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Fani-Kayode and Omokri argued that any attempt to return power to the North after just one term under a Southern president would be “unpatriotic and inimical to the unity, equilibrium, and progress of Nigeria.”
They also praised Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming that his administration had recorded “12 cycles of GDP growth and trade surpluses,” while adding $67 billion to Nigeria’s economy.
The two political figures further highlighted major infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Tinubu administration, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Trans-Saharan Road project linking the Southeast to Northern Nigeria.
Drawing comparisons with Switzerland’s power-sharing arrangement, they said Nigeria’s political stability could be strengthened through equitable rotation of power among the country’s regions and ethnic groups.
They called on Nigerians across religious and regional lines to support Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” expressing confidence that the country could attain a $1 trillion economy by 2031 if the president is re-elected.
