According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune on Friday, May 8, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he has not endorsed any aspirant for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
Wike dismissed circulating claims suggesting that he has already chosen a preferred candidate, insisting that such reports are inaccurate. He explained that no endorsement has been made at this stage, as political consultations are still ongoing among relevant stakeholders.
The minister added that any decision regarding support for candidates would only be reached after broader discussions involving key political actors within both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
He also made it clear that there is currently no formal political arrangement between his camp and the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, alignments within the state’s political landscape remain fluid and subject to further engagement and negotiation.
Wike noted that the political environment in Rivers State is still delicate, emphasizing the need for caution and continuous dialogue among stakeholders. He stressed that no final position has been taken regarding who will ultimately receive backing in the governorship contest.
