Obi Only Goes Where Other People Have Toiled To Cook And Take The Biggest Meat – Bayo Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga, Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has strongly criticized the political approach of former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Onanuga accused Obi of benefiting from efforts he did not contribute to, suggesting that his actions reflect a pattern of opportunism.

His comments come against the backdrop of ongoing debates triggered by remarks from former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. Lawal, who has been a known supporter of Obi, had earlier voiced dissatisfaction over Obi’s decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Reacting to the situation, Onanuga argued that Obi tends to align himself with structures built by others rather than developing his own political base. He used a metaphor to illustrate his point, implying that Obi often arrives after the groundwork has been laid and seeks to claim the most significant advantage.

Onanuga further suggested that Lawal may have begun to reconsider his support, claiming that the former SGF now recognizes what he described as Obi’s self-serving tendencies. According to him, Obi’s political decisions are primarily driven by personal gain rather than broader party interests.
