Reactions Trail Wike’s Comment That He Hasn’t Endorsed Anyone & He’s Not Working With Fubara In Rivers

Reactions have continued to trail remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who stated that he has not endorsed any candidate for the Rivers State governorship and is not politically aligned with the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike made the disclosure during his monthly media chat on Wednesday, which was broadcast on Channels Television, where he addressed a range of political issues, including developments in Rivers State and the wider national political scene.

“I have not endorsed anyone for Rivers governorship. We are not working with Fubara,” Wike said, dismissing speculations about his involvement in the state’s upcoming electoral dynamics.

The former Rivers State governor also accused Fubara of reneging on an agreement allegedly reached with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, an arrangement he claimed helped avert impeachment proceedings against the governor.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions among political stakeholders and observers, with some interpreting the statement as a signal of deepening divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

Others, however, view Wike’s stance as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, suggesting it could reshape alliances and influence the balance of power within the state.

During the same media chat, Wike also weighed in on national politics, questioning claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for crises within opposition parties.

He cited reports of the exit of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), questioning attempts to blame the ruling party for internal party challenges.
