You Won an Election, They Stole it From You, and Yet You Are Tendering an Apology, Okai Tells Muri

Former Peoples Democratic Party House of Representatives candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency, Usman Austin Okai, has reacted to recent political developments in Kogi State, criticizing what he described as an unusual approach to post-election reconciliation.

In a Facebook post dated April 4, 2026, Okai expressed disapproval over a situation in which the Social Democratic Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kogi State, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, whom he believed had been wronged during the 2023 gubernatorial election, was seen extending an apology to former Governor Yahaya Bello.

He likened the development to a scenario in which an aggrieved party chooses submission instead of confrontation, suggesting that such actions could undermine the integrity of electoral struggles.

“You won an election, they stole it from you, and yet you are tendering an apology to the very person who took your mandate. It is like catching a man having an affair with your wife, and instead of reacting, you go to the kitchen to prepare him tea and bread to give him the energy to hit harder,” Okai wrote.

His comments come amid reactions to a public apology issued by Ajaka to Yahaya Bello.

The apology marks a notable shift in political relations between the two figures following a period of intense rivalry.

Ajaka, who had previously fallen out with Bello before the 2023 gubernatorial election, described his decision as part of a broader effort to promote peace, unity, and development in the state.

He acknowledged that tensions during the election period created deep divisions and stated that reconciliation was necessary for progress.
