Transfers Are Legally Permitted, Allow Peter Obi And Kwankwaso To Leave, Don’t Insult Them – Sani

Human rights activist and former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani has urged restraint amid growing speculation over possible defections by prominent politicians from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a message posted on his official X account on May 2, 2026, Sani stated that political movement between parties is both lawful and common in democratic systems, warning critics against resorting to insults or labeling such actions as opportunistic.

His comments come at a time when reports, largely unverified, have circulated across social media suggesting that key opposition figures may be reconsidering their political affiliations ahead of the 2027 elections.

One of the figures at the center of the conversation is Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, who has recently faced speculation about a possible search for a new political platform.

Although no official statement has confirmed such intentions, the rumors have continued to gain traction online.

Similarly, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has also been linked to a potential exit from the ADC, months after aligning with notable political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and David Mark.

Sani, known for his outspoken views on governance and civil rights, dismissed the backlash trailing the reports, stressing that political realignments are part of the democratic process.

He illustrated his point with a football comparison, likening party defections to player transfers between clubs.
