
Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has suggested an unprecedented political partnership between his principal and Peter Obi during an interview with Mic on Podcast.
Acknowledging Obi’s presidential ambitions, Olarewaju stated: “Peter Obi has come out to express that he wanted to be president in 2023.”
The political strategist proposed moving beyond individual candidacies toward a collaborative approach. “We have to look for how best to get them to work together,” he said, adding that “it cannot just be a case of let’s run with Atiku or let’s run with Peter Obi.”
Olarewaju outlined what he believes would be an optimal electoral strategy: “I think the best bet would be to have the two of them on that ticket and give Nigerians this sort of sense of co-presidency.”
Drawing from current political dynamics, he referenced existing power-sharing perceptions in government. “We’re already seeing it sort of in the administration of the country where you have former Governor Wike portraying himself as a co-president. So why can’t we have a co-presidency in that regard?” he questioned.
The media aide indicated that formal discussions could take place within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). “There will be discussions, especially within the ADC, where His Excellency Peter Obi and His Excellency Atiku Abubakar will sit down, have a solid arrangement that will see the both of them into power,” he explained.
