My Sister Was Kidnapped, Taken To Sambisa Forest; She Was Brave And Escaped After 2 Years In Captivity—Hayatu Deen

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a former presidential aspirant, has shared a deeply personal account of the impact of insecurity in Nigeria, revealing that his sister was once abducted by Boko Haram and taken to Sambisa Forest. According to him, she endured approximately two and a half years in captivity before managing to escape.

In a video broadcast by Arise TV, Hayatu-Deen recounted the ordeal, emphasizing the resilience and bravery his sister demonstrated throughout her time in captivity. He described her survival and eventual escape as a testament to her strength of character, noting that the experience has left a lasting emotional impact on their family.

Beyond his sister’s experience, Hayatu-Deen also disclosed that multiple members of his extended family have lost their lives in attacks carried out by Boko Haram. These personal losses, he explained, have shaped his perspective on national security and made the issue particularly significant to him. Rather than viewing insecurity as an abstract national challenge, he stressed that it is a reality he has confronted firsthand.

In his words: “My sister was actually kidnapped some years back and taken to Sambisa forest and she was able to escape after two and half years in captivity to be precise. She was a very brave and courageous young lady. That indelible mark still lives with the family. I have a number of relations who have been killed by Boko Haram so it is something that I can relate to personally”

His remarks highlight the human cost of insurgency in Nigeria, illustrating how violence has affected not only communities but also individuals with public profiles. By sharing his story, Hayatu-Deen underscored the urgency of addressing insecurity and supporting victims of terrorism. His testimony serves as a reminder that behind statistics and headlines are real families coping with trauma, loss, and resilience in the face of prolonged conflict…. See More
