During an interview on Mic On Podcast, Dino Melaye, ADC chieftain, criticized the borrowing patterns of successive administrations, raising concerns about Nigeria’s rising debt profile.
Melaye compared the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari with that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the scale of borrowing under the current administration is significantly higher despite the removal of the fuel subsidy. He suggested that the pace of borrowing in recent years could have long-term implications for the country’s economic stability.
He also expressed concern about the burden such borrowing could place on future generations, warning that the trend may have far-reaching consequences if not addressed.
According to him, “In 8 years with subsidy, Buhari borrowed N87 trillion (with subsidy). In 3 years without subsidy, Tinubu borrowed N151 trillion. That’s before the last borrowing.
