Ijele:His KidneyAlready FailedAt Ikoyi Prison,We Got Him Out,He’s GoneBack To FG Making Mouth-Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has highlighted his efforts in securing the release of detained Nigerians, citing specific cases of individuals he claims were unjustly held in custody.

Sowore made the remarks during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he spoke about his advocacy for prisoners’ rights and interventions in cases involving alleged oppression within Nigeria’s correctional system.

During the interview, he recounted the case of an individual identified as Ijele, who he said was in critical condition while in detention at the Ikoyi custodial facility. “Ijele, whose kidney had already failed at Ikoyi prison, we got him out. He is doing well today for himself. In fact, he has gone back to the federal government that prosecuted him to be making mouth,” Sowore stated.

The activist used the example to illustrate what he described as systemic issues within the country’s detention facilities, including delayed medical attention and prolonged incarceration without adequate care. According to him, such interventions are part of broader efforts by his movement to support vulnerable Nigerians who may not have the resources or visibility to secure justice.

Ikoyi Custodial Centre, located in Lagos, is one of the country’s prominent correctional facilities and has faced scrutiny in the past over inmate welfare and conditions. Sowore’s comments add to ongoing conversations about the state of Nigeria’s correctional institutions and the treatment of detainees.

He stressed the importance of civil society involvement in ensuring accountability within the justice system, noting that many detainees remain behind bars under harsh conditions without timely legal or medical support….See More
