Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that today marks the expiration of Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu’s tenure as a serving police officer.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Sowore said, “The IGP must know that the expiration of his tenure is today. So we will take it from there. You can hold as many meetings as you want. What we believe in is what we believe in, and that is the position we will take,” he said.
Sowore speculated that the IGP’s recent meetings including one with senior lawyer Femi Falana the previous week were driven by anxiety about the tenure question rather than any substantive legal matter.
He stated that Disu was entitled to meet with whomever he chose, he however noted that if any of those meetings had been arranged to extend his tenure in the police force, they would amount to a waste of time.
