Okinbaloye: For Me, I’ve Spoken To Him; We’ve No Problem, & I’m Sure He Understands Everything—Wike

In a recent interview on News Central TV, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike further addressed the controversy surrounding his comments about Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye, insisting that the matter has been resolved and there is no conflict between them. Wike made the clarification while responding to criticism over remarks that some interpreted as a threat toward the journalist.

Speaking during the interview, Wike said, “For me, I have spoken to him; we have no problem, and I’m sure he understands everything.” He explained that after the incident, he personally contacted Okinbaloye to discuss the issue and ensure there was no misunderstanding between them.

According to the minister, his relationship with the journalist remains cordial, and both men understand the true context of the statement that sparked public debate. Wike stressed that his remarks during the earlier exchange were not intended as a threat but were simply made in anger while expressing dissatisfaction with how the interview was handled.

The FCT Minister lamented that many Nigerians, especially political opponents, were too quick to misrepresent his words for political purposes. He argued that in today’s political climate, public figures often have their statements twisted and exaggerated by critics seeking to create controversy where none exists.

Wike maintained that anyone familiar with his relationship with Okinbaloye would know that there was never any serious issue between them. He also noted that several journalists present during the moment in question understood that his comments were figurative and not literal.

The former Rivers State governor further accused some of his detractors of using the incident as an opportunity to score cheap political points, claiming that certain individuals are eager to exploit any statement connected to his name. He insisted that those attacking him know fully well that he never intended harm but are deliberately pushing false narratives to tarnish his reputation.
