In a recent interview on TVC News, Oladimeji Fabiyi discussed internal party politics and the trend of political defections, particularly in the context of the 2023 elections.
During the conversation, Fabiyi referred to Nyesom Wike, stating, “Wike: Someone lost the primaries, wanted VP, failed, then joined opposition against his party.” He was highlighting Wike’s move after contesting the 2022 party primaries ahead of the 2023 presidential election and subsequently shifting allegiance following the outcome.
Fabiyi argued that Wike’s defection exemplifies a recurring issue in Nigerian politics, where personal ambition often outweighs loyalty to a political party. According to him, such actions destabilize parties, weaken internal democracy, and create opportunities for opposition forces to exploit divisions, ultimately complicating electoral strategies. He emphasized that while disappointment over primary results is understandable, party members should seek resolution through internal mechanisms rather than joining rival parties to pursue personal goals.
The ADC official also stressed that the party remains committed to fostering unity and strengthening its organizational structure. Efforts are ongoing to consolidate leadership, promote transparency, and ensure that all members adhere to the party’s vision and electoral objectives. Fabiyi highlighted that maintaining cohesion is essential for presenting a credible platform to voters.
He concluded by reaffirming the ADC’s determination to contest the ruling party effectively at the polls, insisting that the party’s focus remains on mobilizing grassroots support and advancing its agenda, rather than being distracted by defections or outside influences. Fabiyi’s remarks underscore the broader challenge of balancing individual ambitions with collective party goals in Nigeria’s political landscape…See More
