I Went To See Wike, I Swallowed My Ego, But What He Told Me Was That He Had Conquered Us– Governor Mohammed

In a major political development that threatens to further destabilize Nigeria’s main opposition, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced his intention to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to reports from the Nigerian Tribune and other national dailies on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the governor cited a total breakdown in reconciliation efforts and the conquest of the party by internal rivals as the primary reasons for his impending departure.

Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, revealed that he took extraordinary steps to bridge the widening gap within the party.

He detailed a personal visit to the residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in an attempt to broker a truce.

The Governor explained that he set aside his personal and political pride to seek unity, but found the door to reconciliation firmly shut.

“I even went to see Wike himself in his house. I swallowed my ego and met him. But what he told me was, he is already a conqueror. He has conquered us. He’s taking hold of the PDP.”

The Governor’s efforts were not limited to internal party figures. He disclosed that he engaged with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and held multiple meetings with the President, hoping to find a path toward stabilizing the political environment.

However, following a controversial national convention and the installation of a new National Working Committee (NWC) backed by the Wike-aligned bloc, Mohammed concluded that the PDP has become headless and irredeemable.

Confirming that he and his supporters are now actively seeking a new political home, Mohammed identified the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the leading contender for his defection.

He described the party as a very enduring and acceptable platform that offers a credible space for a strong opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

While he noted that discussions with other political groups are ongoing to ensure his supporters’ interests are protected, a final declaration is expected by Thursday.

“We have found ourselves in a very serious ambivalence where our party is headless,” the Governor said. “We have to find a place within the opposition. That is where our fate and political destiny are taking us…..See More
