United States President Donald Trump has defended past and ongoing American military actions against Iran, specifically referencing the assassination of top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani, describing him as a horrible but powerful and smart leader whose elimination was necessary to weaken Iran’s influence in the Middle East.
Trump made the remarks during a recent interview on Fox News, where he discussed broader US operations in the region and the ongoing tensions with Iran. “Soleimani, he was a horrible person, but he was a very powerful person and leader, smart, but we killed him,” Trump said.
The president described Soleimani as a central force behind instability across the Middle East and said his removal significantly disrupted Iran’s military strategy and weakened its ability to project power through proxy groups in the region. Trump framed the strike as part of a wider effort to curb what he called Iran’s long-standing aggression and its pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities.
