Stop Faking Trump’s Comments on Nigeria – Shehu Sani Warns Citizens

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has warned Nigerians against circulating or fabricating statements attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria. In a message posted on X on March 17, 2026, Sani cautioned that such actions could have unintended consequences for the country’s image and diplomatic standing.

In his statement, Sani stressed the need for caution and responsibility in sharing information online, particularly when it involves international figures. He noted that falsely attributing comments to Trump could provoke unnecessary attention or reactions that may not be in Nigeria’s interest.

“Those who are ‘faking’ Trump’s statement on Nigeria should desist from such acts in order not to divert his anger and frustration towards us. Don’t make us a scapegoat. Allow him to concentrate on other issues,” Sani said in the post.

The warning comes amid the circulation of a viral message allegedly linked to Trump, which criticized Nigeria’s leadership following recent security developments. The message, widely shared on social media, was later described as fake, sparking debate about misinformation and its potential impact on public perception.

The controversy is linked to recent suicide bombings in Maiduguri, located in Borno State, where more than 20 people were reportedly killed. The attacks occurred during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom, a timing that fueled online criticism and speculation.

Observers say the spread of the fake statement highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age, especially during sensitive national events. Analysts warn that such content can escalate tensions, mislead the public, and complicate diplomatic relations if left unchecked……See More
