They Publish And Circulate A Fake Paper Credited To Me, Claiming That I’m Dead- Obasanjo

According to Nigerian Tribune, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed circulating rumours about his death, firmly stating that he remains strong and will not die anytime soon despite being 89 years old.

Obasanjo addressed the speculation on Wednesday in Abeokuta during a colloquium organised to celebrate his 89th birthday.

Speaking at the event, the former leader reacted to a fake letter that had been circulating online, which falsely claimed it was written by him to announce his own death.

The elder statesman criticised those responsible for spreading the document, describing them as idle individuals intent on causing confusion.

He made it clear that the message was fabricated and had nothing to do with him.

He said, “For my final note in this address, I want to point your attention to the work of some never-do-well. They publish and circulate a fake paper credited to me that I am writing, giving notice of my death, pafuka.”

Obasanjo stressed that the rumours reflected the wishes of those spreading them rather than reality.

According to him, he believes God still has a purpose for his life and has equipped him with the strength to continue fulfilling that purpose.

“That is their wish and surely not God’s wish for me. God has assured me that He has more for me to do on earth and He has given me the wherewithal to do it. And those who wish otherwise are going to be dealt with by God Himself. I dey kampe as usual,” he said.

Before making the closing remarks, Obasanjo had already dismissed the rumours earlier in his speech, maintaining that those promoting the false claim were wasting their time.
