According to a report by Iran International on March 1, 2026, Iran appointed Ahmad Vahidi, a former defense and interior minister, as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday.
This decision came one day after joint US-Israeli strikes killed several senior Iranian military commanders on Saturday, including Mohammad Pakpour, who previously served as the head of the Guards.
The attacks severely disrupted Iran’s military leadership structure and heightened regional tensions amid ongoing escalations in the Middle East.
Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi now assumes command of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an elite force central to Iran’s security apparatus and foreign operations.
Vahidi brings extensive experience from his past roles, including service in the IRGC and high-level government positions.
Authorities made the announcement swiftly to maintain continuity in the organization’s command amid the recent losses.
