Lawyer Inibehe Effiong, a renowned human rights activist and legal practitioner has taken to his official X handle to react after the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasiru El-Rufai challenged the wire-tapping charge preferred against him by DSS. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he disclosed the significance of the charge.
The former governor of Kaduna State and ADC Chieftain, Nasiru El-Rufai caused a massive stir after he admitted to wire-tapping the mobile devices of the national security adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
His admission, which sparked massive public reactions, prompted the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to institute a charge against him, an action which triggered fresh rounds of public debate.
However, the former governor, in a dramatic twist of events, through his legal representatives, challenged the charge preferred against him, an act which many believed was reflective.
Inibehe Effiong, a renowned human rights activist and legal practitioner in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, pointed out that the twist was highly expected.
According to his statements, he argued that the wire-tapping charge preferred against the former Kaduna governor was not known to law. The DSS, according to the respected lawyer, was also not constitutionally recognized.
The admission by the former governor, which many believed was a national security threat, might not land him in trouble as the well learned legal practitioner maintained that his prosecutors do not have prosecutorial powers.
