According to a report by The Times Of Israel on February 23, 2026, following the assassination of the boss of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the country’s most powerful drug cartel, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to Israelis travelling in Mexico, advising them to minimise non-essential movement and avoid crowded areas in specific regions.
Israeli officials have warned Mexicans to be extremely cautious in light of the current security situation.
The state of Jalisco is the main bastion of the cartel, therefore travellers were warned not to go there unless absolutely essential and to stay away from the districts around the airports in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.
As tensions continue to grow, the ministry has emphasised the significance of staying vigilant and closely monitoring developments.
As the unrest associated with the killings spreads across the impacted areas, the advisory warned Israelis to remain vigilant in case their flights are delayed, cancelled, or subject to schedule modifications.
Residents were reminded to always be vigilant and heed any orders given by local officials.
As criminal groups react to recent events, officials have warned that there may be unannounced rallies, roadblocks, and violent situations. Much of Mexico was rocked by the unrest that followed the killing of “El Mencho,” cartel boss Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes.

Nonetheless, the cartel—whose Spanish initials are CJNG—reacted violently. Members of the cartel blocked highways in nearly a dozen states by setting cars on fire and releasing dense smoke into the air.
