I’m Going To Represent Nigeria;Obi Has A Bank;I Give My Word,I’ll Promote That Bank In Mexico—Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, recently appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, has outlined a strategic agenda focused on strengthening trade relations and promoting Nigerian industries in the Americas. Speaking on April 27, 2026, during an interview with News Central TV following the Induction Course for Ambassadors and High Commissioners Designate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Omokri emphasized his commitment to expanding Nigeria’s economic footprint, particularly in Mexico.

Drawing from his recent engagement with Aliko Dangote, Omokri highlighted the vast export potential of Nigeria’s refining sector. He stated, “I was with Alhaji Aliko Dangote and one of the things, he gave me a tour of his refinery. While I was there, I saw ships going to Argentina in particular, and then going to Asia. But then Alhaji told me he has the capacity to supply even countries in the Americas.”

A central pillar of his diplomatic mission, according to Omokri, is the promotion of Nigerian businesses abroad. He noted, “And so what I want to do as a priority for myself is to advance the Nigerian corporate industry. Not just Alhaji Aliko Dangote, other people, you know, Nigerian banks, you know, to advise them.” His vision includes facilitating the expansion of Nigerian financial institutions and encouraging their presence in international markets.

Omokri also expressed a strong desire to see increased export activity directed toward Mexico. “So I want to see ships heading from the Alhaji Aliko Dangote refinery to Mexico. I want to see banks, you know, coming like Tony Elumelu’s bank, other banks in Nigeria, even banks,” he said.

Reinforcing his non-partisan stance, he added, “I mean, I am going there to represent Nigeria. You know, Peter Obi has a bank, he’s a large shareholder in one of the banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank. I give my word, I will promote that bank in Mexico. So I’m going there, I’m dead to any political partisanship. I’m going to project Nigeria.”

Omokri further identified petroleum exports as an immediate opportunity, stating, “So one of the things that I know that we can do immediately in Mexico is to refine petroleum products. That is a huge, there’s a huge demand for that over there. We’re going to send that.”

In addition, he pointed to potential collaboration in the automotive industry, noting that Mexico’s expertise could support Nigerian manufacturers such as Innoson Chukwuma and Nord in scaling production and improving capacity….See More
