In a recent interview on TVC News, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, reflected on the recent FCT council election and the level of political engagement recorded during the campaign period.
He explained that the election witnessed active participation from multiple political actors, noting that campaigns were conducted across communities in Abuja. According to him, the contest highlighted the importance of grassroots mobilization and direct voter interaction in shaping electoral outcomes.
According to Kalu, “While Peter Obi and Atiku were on the streets, we were also on the streets,” the Deputy Speaker emphasized that his political camp did not adopt a passive approach. He stated that active engagement was central to their strategy, ensuring that supporters were reached through consistent community outreach and structured organization.
According to Kalu, opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar were visibly involved in campaign activities, reflecting the competitive nature of the poll. He said such engagement is a normal and healthy part of democratic practice, as parties seek to present their programs directly to voters.
Kalu further explained that elections are determined by preparation, discipline, and voter confidence. He noted that being present in communities allows political groups to better understand citizens’ concerns and respond with practical solutions.
