Lagos: They Wanted To Turn It Into Territory Of Their Own That Nobody Can Come And See Them – Gbenga Omotoso

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso has given fresh insight into the demolition of some buildings at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Government Area, stressing that the exercise was carried out in the public interest. He explained that the actions of the occupants threatened law and order in the state.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Omotoso said the government could not stand by while a section of the complex was being converted into a restricted zone. He alleged that the occupants were trying to turn the area into an enclave where state authorities had no access, a situation he described as unacceptable and unlawful.

“This is a place that these people wanted to turn into a no-go area. They wanted to turn it into a territory of their own that nobody can come and see them and that is illegal and no state is going to allow that,” Omotoso stated.

The demolition has stirred mixed reactions from traders and stakeholders, with some lamenting losses and accusing the government of high-handedness. Others, however, argue that illegal structures and lawless occupation of public facilities undermine safety and urban development.

Omotoso maintained that Lagos State has a duty to enforce its urban planning regulations and ensure public spaces are not hijacked by private interests. He urged residents and business operators to secure necessary approvals before erecting structures, warning that the government would not hesitate to act against violations.

According to him, the state remains committed to orderly growth, security, and the protection of legitimate businesses while taking firm steps to prevent lawless enclaves from emerging within its jurisdiction.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
