It’s My Duty to Ensure Any Candidate Who is Not Supporting Tinubu Doesn’t Win in FCT Election- Wike

As reported by TheCable on Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that his support in the upcoming area council elections on February 21 in Abuja will be exclusively for candidates that are in agreement with President Bola Tinubu.

While attending the 60th birthday celebration of former senator Sandy Onor in the capital, Wike expressed that his main focus in the council elections will be to back candidates who share and advance the president’s objectives.

He pointed out that his decision will not be influenced by party membership but rather by loyalty to the president’s governance, which will guide his participation in the elections.

The minister assured his commitment to preventing any candidates who do not endorse the president’s vision from winning in the elections.

Wike remarked, “It is also my job to make sure that no candidate who does not back Tinubu is victorious in the election, and I make no apologies for this position.”

As the elections approach, a number of candidates are advocating for a fair and trustworthy process that allows all participants an equal chance.

One of these candidates is Moses Paul from the African Democratic Congress, who has recently asked Wike for his support in the Abuja Municipal Area Council race.

Paul emphasized his work in local education and primary healthcare initiatives.

The current AMAC chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, who was elected in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party, switched to the All Progressives Congress in 2025 and is now running for re-election with his new party.
