Richard Akinnola, an author and lawyer, has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo hid under the bed of his aide-de-camp, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammed Bakare, during the 1976 coup led by Colonel Bukar Suka Dimka.
In an interview on the State Affairs Show with Edmund Obilo, Akinnola said there are different versions of the events that happened during the Nigerian civil war but he believes more in the account given by General Alabi Isama. He said Isama was more detailed and fairer in his account than Obasanjo.
Akinnola said Obasanjo’s book on the Nigerian civil war was written mainly to praise himself. He stated that the book focused on glorifying Obasanjo while dismissing the contributions of others.
In Akinnola’s words: “Obasanjo’s book is just self-glorification and rubbish every other person except yourself. Here is somebody who during the Dimka coup ran under the bed of SP Bakare.
