According to a report by The Times Of Israel on February 7, 2026, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said a new round of nuclear discussions with the United States is expected to take place “soon,” following what he described as a positive opening encounter in Oman. The talks mark a renewed diplomatic effort after a prolonged period of tension over Iran’s nuclear program and international concerns about enrichment activities.
Araghchi characterized the initial meeting as constructive, noting that both sides engaged in what he called a meaningful exchange of views. He said the first round of talks in Oman yesterday had been a “good start,” signaling cautious optimism while also stressing that rebuilding confidence would not happen overnight.
In remarks shared from an interview with the Al Jazeera network and published in Persian on his official Telegram channel, Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s long-standing stance on uranium enrichment. He stated that nuclear “enrichment is our inalienable right and must continue. Even with bombing, they could not destroy our capabilities,” underscoring Iran’s insistence on maintaining what it sees as its lawful nuclear activities.
At the same time, he indicated a willingness to pursue a negotiated framework that could address international concerns. “We are ready to reach a reassuring agreement on enrichment,” he said during the interview, portions of which were later released by Al Jazeera with Arabic dubbing.
Despite this openness to dialogue, Araghchi made clear that certain red lines remain. He emphasized that “Iran’s sovereign position is opposition to transferring uranium abroad,” reflecting Tehran’s resistance to proposals that would require shipping enriched material outside the country.
He also reaffirmed Iran’s view that diplomacy is the only viable path forward. “The Iranian nuclear case will only be resolved through negotiations,” he said.
