If a common snake bites you, there is no snake venom in all of Nigeria- Obi tells Abuja residents

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential election and a current member of the ADC, while campaigning for the ADC’s candidate in the forthcoming AMAC election in Abuja, has urged the people to vote his party’s member, as he promised change.

While he was talking in the video that was posted by Symfoni (between 5:10-5:50 minute), he explained that their objective is to build a different kind of Nigeria—one that proves meaningful change is achievable. According to him, this vision is anchored on a new political culture that requires aspiring leaders to engage directly with citizens, listen to their concerns, and remain accountable to the people they seek to govern. He said his engagement was meant to reaffirm their resolve to end the cycle of governance that has kept the country stagnant.

He also painted a grim picture of the nation’s current state, noting that Nigeria now accounts for one of the largest populations of people living in poverty worldwide. He highlighted worsening insecurity, widespread hunger, and growing hardship, adding that many children are still being denied access to education.

“There’s no primary health care. If today you are sick, there’s no primary healthcare to go. If a common snake bites you, there’s no snake venom in all of Nigeria. So Nigeria is going through a problem, and we want to change it.

He said their agenda is focused on ending the diversion of public funds and ensuring that national resources are used for the collective good.

According to him, the goal is to guarantee access to education for every child, strengthen primary healthcare, reduce poverty, and improve electricity generation and distribution.

He pointed to examples from other African countries, such as Ethiopia and Egypt, noting that similar progress has been achieved elsewhere on the continent.

In his view, Nigeria is capable of making the same transformation. He stressed that the ultimate aim is to create a system where opportunity is not determined by background, and where even the most disadvantaged child can grow into a successful and respected Nigerian.
