Popular Nollywood actress and content creator, Lizzy Jay, has opened up about a deeply personal and traumatic experience involving the hacking of her social media account and an attempt to blackmail her with a private video.
Lizzy made the revelation during an interview on With Chude, where she narrated how a man gained unauthorized access to her Snapchat account and obtained a private video she had recorded while she was unwell. According to the actress, the video was never meant for public viewing, as it was recorded solely for medical reasons and sent to her doctor at the time.
Recounting the incident, Lizzy said the ordeal began when an unknown individual sent her a direct message claiming he had nude content belonging to her. At first, she did not take the message seriously and assumed the person was merely trying to scare or extort her.
In her word, “This person came to my DM and said, ‘I have your nudes,’” she said. “I was even showing my friends what he said, telling them to let him post it because I thought he was just bluffing and didn’t believe it was real.”
According to Lizzy, her initial confidence was rooted in the belief that she had never knowingly shared such content publicly or stored it carelessly. She explained that she brushed off the threat and continued her day without worry, convinced the message was an empty attempt at intimidation.
However, the situation took a disturbing turn when the man later sent her an email containing a screenshot taken from the private video. That was when she realized the threat was real. Lizzy said the screenshot shocked her and confirmed that her Snapchat account had indeed been compromised.
The actress disclosed that the man then presented her with two options: either she paid him to keep the video private or he would release it online. Rather than panic, Lizzy said she stood her ground and refused to negotiate with him.
In a bold response, she challenged him to go ahead and post the video, believing that giving in to blackmail would only encourage further harassment. True to his threat, the hacker later uploaded a short clip from the video on Instagram.
Lizzy noted that although the video was shared briefly, it was later taken down. She added that after the man observed her calm reaction and noticed that she was not engaging with his threats emotionally or financially, he stopped contacting her altogether.
