Negotiating With Coalition By Day, Visiting BAT By Night Is How You End Up Being Kwankwasoed- Demola

Demola Olarewaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media and Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has issued a scathing critique of opposition governors, accusing them of undermining the 2027 coalition efforts through political “double-dealing.”

In a series of pointed posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Olarewaju warned that governors who attempt to balance loyalty between an opposition alliance and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are headed for political disaster.

Olarewaju’s primary grievance centered on governors who participate in high-level opposition strategy meetings while simultaneously maintaining clandestine relationships with President Bola Tinubu. He cautioned that such a “middle-of-the-road” approach often results in the politician being discarded by both sides.

“Negotiating with coalition by Day and visiting Tinubu by Night is exactly how you end up being Kwankwasoed,” Olarewaju wrote.

By using the term “Kwankwasoed,” Olarewaju alluded to political isolation, suggesting that hedging one’s bets eventually leads to a loss of influence and trust within both the government and the opposition.

The media aide argued that a successful coalition cannot be built on a foundation of indecision. He urged opposition leaders to first settle on a clear ideological stance regarding the current administration before coming to the negotiating table.

“First make up your mind as a Governor that Tinubu is bad for Nigeria and then negotiate the control of your state with the opposition coalition but these ones are weak,” he asserted.

Olarewaju emphasized that if a governor truly believes the current administration is detrimental to the country, they must possess the courage to state that position openly. He described the current behavior of some governors as “weak,” stating that trying to please both the ruling party and the opposition paralyzes the entire democratic process.
