Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has claimed that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, encountered a major political shock during his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Fayose suggested that Makinde’s trip was motivated by a need to mitigate backlash from remarks he allegedly made criticizing the President. According to Fayose, the visit was intended as a corrective measure but did not unfold as Makinde might have anticipated.
In a post on social media, Fayose wrote that Makinde “met the shock of his political life” during his encounter with Tinubu, whom he referred to by his widely recognized political nickname, Asiwaju. The former governor, known for his candid and often provocative commentary, hinted that the outcome of the meeting reflected underlying tensions between Makinde and the Presidency. While Fayose did not provide detailed information about the discussions, his remarks have stirred speculation regarding the nature of the relationship between the Oyo governor and the Federal Government.
Fayose further implied that Makinde’s recent public statements and political stance might be influenced by the experience of that visit, suggesting it could mark a turning point in his engagement with the Tinubu administration. The former governor’s comments appear to frame the encounter as a significant moment in Makinde’s political calculations.
Makinde has not publicly addressed Fayose’s claims, and there has been no official statement from the Presidency concerning the meeting’s content or tone. Political analysts note that interactions between opposition leaders and ruling party officials are closely monitored, as they often provide insight into possible shifts, negotiations, or strategic adjustments within Nigeria’s political landscape.
