In an interview on News Central TV, Public Affairs Analyst Dotun Ojon criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s approach to party politics, suggesting he needs to better understand the electoral process beyond personal popularity.

Ojon emphasized the importance of securing a party platform for any electoral bid. “He (Peter Obi) should just understand the process beyond the popularity of the election. If you don’t make it to the ballot paper, how do you get people to vote for you?” he questioned.

The analyst expressed concern about what he perceived as Obi’s uncertain political positioning, stating, “You may not understand. How can somebody of Obi’s status be standing and putting legs like this? One is here, the other is here.”

Despite acknowledging Obi’s widespread support during the 2023 elections, Ojon argued that popularity alone is insufficient. “And that’s why there’s nobody, including the man that is on the seat today, that was as popular as Obi in 2023. He was extremely popular. People just thought that he will be able to build on that,” he said.

The public affairs analyst outlined what he believes should be Obi’s priority moving forward. “And the only way to build on that is that people, for example, have known you with the Labor Party. It is to play the politics of retaining, quote unquote, ownership of the party,” Ojon explained.

He stressed the need for party control and organizational stability, saying, “I ran under my party. I still lead the party. I won’t allow people to just hijack the party. If you are credible, you must build credible people along the line that must form a fence around your party.”

Ugezu maintained that those who truly know him understand that he does not hesitate to help when he genuinely has the means to do so, adding that he has never turned away from responsibility out of pride or wickedness. He concluded his message with a call for empathy and fairness, urging people to be guided, humane, and just in their dealings with others.
