You Chaired APC Under Buhari For Eight Years, Now You Are Blaming Him — Dele Momodu Fires At Oshiomhole

Prominent political analyst and media mogul Dele Momodu has called out leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress for what he described as a pattern of ingratitude toward former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it is hypocritical for those who benefited from his eight years in power to now blame him for the country’s problems.

Momodu made the remarks during a recent commentary where he took aim at the growing trend among APC leaders of distancing themselves from Buhari’s legacy while deflecting responsibility for the current economic challenges facing Nigerians under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The political analyst specifically singled out former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, who he said was recently seen publicly blaming Buhari for the nation’s troubles. Momodu said it was deeply unfair for someone who served as the chairman of the ruling party under Buhari’s government to now turn around and place all the blame on the same man who held the party together for eight years.

Momodu also made the point that without Buhari’s support and endorsement, it would have been nearly impossible for President Tinubu to win the presidency in the first place. He argued that this fact alone should make those around Tinubu more measured in their criticism of the former leader rather than treating him as the sole cause of the country’s challenges.

Speaking on the matter, Momodu said, “Buhari handed over to Tinubu, but for Buhari maybe it would have been impossible for Tinubu to be president today. But who are the people attacking Buhari today even in death? I was watching Adams Oshiomhole the other day complaining and heaping every blame on Buhari. I said so human beings are like this. Once upon a time you are chairman of APC. So if you are today attacking APC it means that you must be ungrateful to the man who held forth for 8 years and did everything.”

The comments touch on a growing debate within Nigeria’s political space about accountability and loyalty within the ruling party. Since President Tinubu took office in May 2023, several APC leaders and government officials have repeatedly pointed to the policies and decisions of the Buhari administration as the root cause of the economic difficulties Nigerians are currently experiencing, including the removal of fuel subsidies, currency devaluation, and rising inflation.

Critics like Momodu however argue that many of those now pointing fingers at Buhari were active participants in his government and benefited significantly from their positions during his tenure. They say it is dishonest to enjoy the rewards of power for eight years and then blame the same government you served in when things become difficult under a new administration.

The debate also raises broader questions about political loyalty and the culture of blame-shifting in Nigerian politics, where outgoing administrations often become convenient targets for those in power seeking to avoid accountability for their own decisions.

As the conversation continues, many Nigerians are watching to see whether the current administration will take fuller ownership of its policies or continue relying on the narrative of inherited problems to explain the country’s economic situation….See More
