Wike once ruled here as governor, and we saw it. He ruled like a pharaoh, says Sara-Igbe

Anabs Sara-Igbe, a former spokesperson of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has made strong comments about the political situation in Rivers State, especially the ongoing tension between the executive and the legislature. Speaking during a recent interview, Sara-Igbe accused some political actors of trying to destabilise the state through what he described as unnecessary impeachment threats against the governor and his deputy.

According to him, the impeachment moves have slowed down development and created fear among residents. He said that since the impeachment talks started, projects have been halted and governance has suffered.

He questioned why the deputy governor was being included in the impeachment process, insisting that the deputy governor has no direct control over finances or budget implementation when the governor is in office.

While addressing the issue of leadership style, Anabs Sara-Igbe compared the current situation with the era of former governor Nyesom Wike. In his words, “Wike is somebody who was once a governor here, and we saw the way he ruled. He ruled like a pharaoh.”

He made this statement to explain why such political pressure and open confrontation did not occur during Wike’s time as governor.

Sara-Igbe noted that the current governor’s calm approach has been misunderstood by opponents as weakness. He warned that constant provocation could lead to insecurity if not properly managed.

He stressed that Rivers State is too important to be dragged into political confusion, adding that the state has a long history and should be treated with respect.

He also spoke about the role of the governor as the symbol and leader of the state, stating that no minister or political figure outside the state executive can replace that position. According to him, the governor represents Rivers State at national meetings and speaks for the people, regardless of party affiliation.

Sara-Igbe called for unity and dialogue, urging political leaders to put the interest of Rivers people first. He maintained that peace is necessary for development but warned that peace should not be mistaken for silence or surrender. He appealed to all sides to avoid actions that could damage democracy and stability in Rivers State.
