Professor Chris Nwaokobia, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate, posited that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is facing repercussions from allegedly swaying the 2023 elections in Obio-Akpor local government and Rivers State against Peter Obi.
In an interview with Symfoni TV, Nwaokobia claimed that Wike thought he had gained total control through election rigging and strategic political moves. “After manipulating the elections in Obio-Akpor and much of Rivers in 2023, Wike believed it would be smooth sailing. He imposed a governor to fulfill his agenda and swayed Rivers voters toward Bola Tinubu, thinking it was a win-win. However, he failed to recognize the powerful forces at play and is now facing the repercussions of his actions,” he stated.
Nwaokobia added that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is also facing backlash for his association with Wike, referring to their alliance as “dining with the devil.”
He described the political climate in Rivers State as disgraceful, though it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s political goals.
The professor condemned the Supreme Court’s ruling on emergency rule, calling it an endorsement of authoritarian behavior. “Sadly, it was the same situation in Rivers that led the Supreme Court to approve dictatorial actions when it asserted that a president can remove an elected governor under the guise of emergency rule,” Nwaokobia remarked.
