“When They Were In Office, Did They Buy Groundnuts To Chew?” -Wike Fires Back At Amaechi And Obi

In a recent video shared on Viable TV, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, responded sharply to criticisms from former political leaders while addressing supporters during a thank-you tour in the FCT. Speaking to a cheering crowd, Wike dismissed what he described as attempts by some politicians to reinvent themselves ahead of future elections.

He accused certain opposition figures of engaging in public drama to win sympathy, insisting that leadership is about performance, not optics. The minister questioned the sudden display of humility by those who once held powerful offices, suggesting that their current actions were politically motivated.

In his words, “When they were in office, did they buy groundnuts to chew?” The remark was seen as a direct swipe at former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, both of whom have remained influential voices in national politics.

Wike argued that while in power, leaders must demonstrate genuine concern for the people through concrete projects and policies rather than symbolic gestures. He maintained that citizens are wiser and can distinguish between authentic service and political theatrics.

The FCT minister further emphasized that governance requires courage, consistency, and a clear understanding of the people’s needs. According to him, his administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure, improving social services, and fulfilling commitments made during campaigns.

Concluding his address, Wike urged residents not to be swayed by what he described as “surface-level politics,” reaffirming that true leadership is measured by results achieved while in office, not by actions taken after leaving power…..See More
