In a video shared by News Central TV, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has questioned the political trajectory and alleged presidential ambition of Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State.
Speaking in a critical tone, Wike reflected on Makinde’s entry into politics and suggested that recent actions by the Oyo governor point to ambitions that go beyond his current office.
He maintained that while political ambition is not wrong, it must be pursued openly and within established political rules and conventions.
In his words, “When did Seyi Makinde come into politics? When did he come? And you see there is nothing wrong with having ambition, but the ambition must be pursued according to the rules. He doesn’t even have the guts to tell us he is running for president. Let him say that he has told anybody, but we know we aren’t kids.”
According to Wike, transparency is essential in democratic politics, especially for leaders who seek higher office.
Wike argued that Nigerians are politically aware and can easily interpret actions that suggest long-term ambitions.
The remarks have added to the growing political tension within opposition circles, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where internal disagreements and leadership struggles have become increasingly public.
