Africa’s richest man and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed an astonishing fact about the versatility of crude oil, explaining that thousands of everyday items are derived from it.
During an interview with Arise TV, Dangote surprised many viewers when he disclosed that the clothes he was wearing were not made from cotton but from oil-based materials. He explained that oil goes far beyond fueling vehicles and plays a vital role in the production of several household and industrial goods.
In his words, Dangote said, “What people forget when it comes to oil is that from oil, you produce over 6,800 items. So, when people talk about moving away from oil, they need to understand that oil is not just about fuel. For instance, the outfit I’m wearing is made from oil, not cotton. The same thing applies to you. Even when you look at most vehicles, you’ll find that about 35% of their components are made from oil — particularly plastics.
