Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Iran is engaged in what he described as a “full-scale war” with the United States, Israel, and Europe, framing the confrontation as more complex and challenging than the eight-year Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s.
According to Iran International, Pezeshkian made the remarks during an interview published on the official website of Iran’s Supreme Leader, according to Iran International, a media outlet that closely monitors developments in the Islamic Republic. In the interview, the Iranian leader argued that the current conflict is not limited to conventional military confrontation but extends across political, economic, security, and psychological domains.
“This war is more difficult and complex than the Iran-Iraq war,” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying, adding that Iran’s adversaries are determined to prevent the country from achieving stability, self-reliance, and long-term development. He accused Western powers and Israel of applying sustained pressure designed to weaken Iran internally and undermine its regional influence.
The president’s comments come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Western governments, driven by issues including Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, regional proxy conflicts, and the ongoing war involving Israel and armed groups aligned with Iran. Economic sanctions imposed by the United States and European allies continue to heavily impact Iran’s economy, while diplomatic negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions remain stalled.
Pezeshkian suggested that the nature of the confrontation requires national unity and resilience, warning that Iran faces coordinated efforts aimed at political isolation and economic destabilization. He emphasized the need for internal reforms and public trust, arguing that domestic strength is essential to withstand external pressure.
Western governments have consistently rejected Iran’s framing of the situation as a war, maintaining that sanctions and diplomatic measures are intended to curb Tehran’s nuclear activities and regional military actions, not to collapse the Iranian state.
