According to the Jerusalem post, Israel’s military is on heightened alert as uncertainty grows over whether a potential U.S. strike on Iran could trigger retaliation against Israel, the head of the IDF’s Northern Command warned Sunday.
Speaking to Channel 12 News, Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo said the situation remains unpredictable as American forces continue to build up across the region. “We don’t know where this is heading,” Milo said. “We see the force buildup the Americans are carrying out, both in the Persian Gulf and throughout the Middle East.”
Milo stressed that the Israel Defense Forces are preparing for a range of scenarios, including the possibility that Iran’s response to a U.S. attack could reach Israeli territory. “We are prepared and ready so that if the US decides to strike Iran, we understand it could affect Israel, with part of the Iranian response possibly reaching here,” he said.
He added that the IDF is also closely monitoring Israel’s northern front amid concerns that Hezbollah could be drawn into a wider conflict. “We are very alert, very prepared, and ready both in strong defense and in preparing offensive responses,” Milo said.
The comments come as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to issue warnings to Tehran, saying military action remains an option if Iran crosses certain red lines, including the killing of protesters or the mass execution of detainees. Speaking aboard Air Force One on Thursday, Trump said the U.S. was moving warships toward the region as a precaution. “We have a massive fleet heading in that direction, and maybe we won’t have to use it,” he said.
A U.S. Navy official confirmed that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and accompanying vessels are currently operating in the Indian Ocean. Iranian officials have responded by warning that any attack would be treated “as an all-out war.”
As security concerns ripple beyond the military sphere, Israel’s aviation authorities are also preparing for potential disruptions. According to a letter obtained by Channel 12, Civil Aviation Authority head Shmuel Zakai warned foreign airlines that the region may be entering a “more sensitive period,” describing the situation as “dynamic” and cautioning that Israeli airspace could be closed again if conditions deteriorate.
