According to a report by Vanguard on Friday, December 26, 2025, residents of Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State have narrated their experiences following a United States airstrike late night, describing widespread panic and confusion as many initially believed an aircraft had crashed into their community.
The incident, which occurred around 10:30 pm, sent shockwaves across Jabo and neighbouring settlements, as a burning object reportedly descended from the sky with a loud explosion that rattled homes and forced residents to flee.
Abubakar Shehu Jabo, a resident and the Information Officer for Tambuwal Local Government Area, said the sudden blast caused fear and uncertainty among community members who were unsure of what was happening. “Because of the very loud noise and the speed at which the burning object descended suddenly, many of us honestly thought it was an air crash,” he said.
He explained that residents only realised the situation after cautiously moving closer to the scene. “But when we carefully moved closer to the scene, we realized it was not an aircraft at all, but something else entirely,” he added.
The traditional ruler of Jabo, Sarkin Fawan Jabo, Muhammadu Abubakar, also spoke on the incident, stressing that the affected communities have no history of terrorism or banditry.
According to him, Jabo and the neighbouring Bargini community have lived in peace for decades without harbouring criminal elements. “We do not harbour terrorists or bandits in our communities at all. This place has been calm and peaceful for a very long time, which makes this incident even more disturbing,” he said.
The monarch recalled that the only major security breach in the area occurred more than two decades ago. He noted that there was just a single kidnapping incident in the year 2000 and that the area has remained peaceful since then.
Another resident from Bargini village described the explosion as terrifying, saying families were caught off guard while preparing to sleep for the night. According to the resident, a thunderous blast was heard, followed by thick smoke and flames that lit up the sky and sent villagers running in different directions.
