A report from WION on Monday, March 2, 2026, states that Iran’s leading security official announced the country is ready for a long-term conflict with the United States and Israel.
This comes as the escalating situation in West Asia marks its third day following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a coordinated US-Israeli attack on a heavily fortified site in Tehran.
Amid increasing regional tensions, Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, noted that the Islamic Republic has long been prepared for the possibility of an extended war and has made significant preparations.
In a post on X, he emphasized that Tehran’s approach is markedly different from that of Washington.
“Iran, unlike the United States, has prepared itself for a long war,” Larijani wrote, signaling the leadership’s readiness for an extended period of confrontation.
Larijani, considered one of the most powerful individuals in Iran following Khamenei’s assassination, adopted a bold stance on the nation’s reaction.
He asserted that Tehran would protect its sovereignty and historical heritage, no matter the repercussions.
“We will fiercely defend ourselves and our six-thousand-year-old civilisation regardless of the costs and will make the enemies sorry for their miscalculation,” he declared.
Earlier today, the security chief stated that there is no chance of resuming negotiations with Washington, rejecting claims that secret diplomatic talks were taking place.
He also blamed former US President Donald Trump for exacerbating regional instability due to what he called irresponsible choices.
