Hon. Barr. Ikenna Ihezuo, the member representing Orlu Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, has defended the emergence of as governor of , insisting that the process that brought him to office was widely misunderstood.
Speaking during an interview with Creative Lord TV, Ihezuo addressed the persistent narrative that Uzodimma moved from fourth position in the 2019 governorship election to first place without due process. According to the lawmaker, many critics formed opinions without fully understanding the legal and constitutional developments that shaped the final outcome.
“From the way he came in, people think that oh, he came from 4th position, he jumped into the first position and grabbed power. But I looked at it and that’s not what happend. People did not see the sequence how this man was able to become governor,” Ihezuo said during the programme. He argued that the description of the governor’s rise as a sudden political leap ignores the judicial proceedings that culminated in the Supreme Court judgment.
Ihezuo explained that the apex court’s ruling, which reviewed disputed results and recalculated votes, followed established legal channels. He maintained that while the decision generated controversy and public debate, it was rooted in constitutional interpretation and evidence presented before the court.
The Orlu lawmaker further urged residents of the state to move beyond what he described as misconceptions and focus instead on governance and development.
