US Airstrike: Their Bombs And Guns Came A-Blazing In The Area Where Deborah Samuel Was Killed-Uranta

Author and political analyst, Sumi Uranta, has weighed in on the recent bombing of a terrorist hideout in Sokoto State by the United States under the directive of President Donald Trump, drawing attention to the symbolic and emotional significance of the location targeted by the airstrike.

Uranta made his remarks during an interview on Voice of the People TV, where he reflected on the history of violence and religious extremism in the area. According to him, the reported US military action carries deeper meaning for many Nigerians because of past incidents linked to intolerance and mob violence.

“It now happened that the Americans, their bombs and guns came a-blazing in the area where Deborah Samuel was killed,” Uranta said.

Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was killed in 2022 over allegations of blasphemy, an incident that sparked nationwide outrage and renewed debate about religious extremism, mob justice, and the rule of law in Nigeria. Uranta noted that the memory of that incident remains fresh in the minds of many Nigerians and continues to shape public perception of security challenges in the state.

The political analyst argued that the bombing highlights how regions previously associated with unchecked extremism are now under increased international scrutiny. He said the strike sends a clear signal that areas perceived as safe havens for terrorist elements are no longer beyond reach.

Uranta, however, cautioned against interpreting the development as a complete solution to Nigeria’s insecurity. While acknowledging the tactical importance of the US intervention, he stressed that sustainable peace can only be achieved through strong domestic institutions, effective intelligence gathering, and consistent enforcement of the law.

He also urged Nigerian authorities to confront the underlying drivers of radicalization, including poverty, illiteracy, and weak governance, warning that military action alone cannot address the roots of terrorism.
