In a recent video shared on Facebook on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, addressed questions regarding the faith of fellow Niger Delta leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo. Dokubo sought to clarify misconceptions and affirm his respect for Tompolo’s religious identity.
According to Dokubo, “Tompolo was a Muslim before, and his Arabic name was Ahmed. He is alive; you can ask him,” He explained that highlighting Tompolo’s Islamic background was intended to correct false narratives circulating about his religious beliefs and to emphasize the continuity of faith within prominent Niger Delta figures.
Dokubo noted that religion has often been a point of scrutiny in public discourse, especially for leaders involved in activism or regional politics. According to him, misrepresenting someone’s faith can distort public perception and foster unnecessary suspicion.
The activist further stressed that Tompolo’s religious identity, like his own, has never interfered with their commitment to community development and leadership in the Niger Delta. He argued that faith should guide moral conduct rather than be used as a tool for criticism or political attacks.
Dokubo also encouraged Nigerians to verify information directly from credible sources rather than relying on rumors. According to him, public figures often face misinformation, and understanding the facts helps maintain unity and respect across the region.
He concluded by stating that acknowledging Tompolo’s faith is part of a broader effort to promote truth and clarity, emphasizing that respect for religious identity should remain central in discussions about leadership, integrity, and service to the Niger Delta.
