Murtala Dantoro, son of the late Emir of Borgu and community leader, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize security in Borgu Emirate in Niger State, the community that bestowed upon him the traditional title “Jagaban.”
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Dantoro highlighted the president’s special connection to the emirate while highlighting the deteriorating security situation affecting residents’ livelihoods. “I am hammering on President Tinubu because he is one of us, the Borgu Emirate. The title Jagaban means ‘a leader’ in Borgu. But his kingdom is falling. I want him to look into this matter because our people can’t go to farms because they are scared. Right now, the economic situation in that entire Borgu Emirate is going down,” he lamented.
The community leader invoked the close relationship between President Tinubu and his late father, the former Emir, stating that such deterioration would not have occurred during his father’s lifetime.
Dantoro characterized Tinubu as a father figure while recalling the depth of friendship between the president and the late emir. “Tinubu and my Father were very close. Extremely close. I think their friendship started from the Senate. If my father was alive, these things won’t be happening,” Dantoro stated.
